about

Reincarnation - Part 2 is the second part of the eighth album by Ragatronics. Ragatronics combines Ragas from Indian Classical music with elements from Electronic, Jazz and Rock music.

Reincarnation revisits several of Ragatronics's older compositions and re-interprets them with new harmonies and new improvisations.

The Swan and The Elephant is based on a composition called Vatapi Ganapatim by Shri Muthuswamy Dikshitar in Raga Hamsadhwani. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/the-swan-and-the-elephant

Keep Your Poise is based on Raga Komal Rishabh Asavari. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/keep-your-poise

Different Layers of a Different Life is based on Raga Bhairav or Raga Mayamalavagowla. It is closely related to an earlier composition called Many Layers to Life based on Raga Charukeshi. Raga Bhairav uses a Komal Rishabh (minor second) and a Teevra Nishad (major seventh) compared to Raga Charukeshi which uses a Teevra Rishabh (major second) and a Komal Nishad (minor seventh). To listen to the earlier composition check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/many-layers-to-life

Strong Roots is based on Raga Shankarabharanam. It is closely related to another composition in this album called Mixed Roots described below.

That Voice is based on Raga Bhimpalasi. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/that-voice

Gently Adrift is based on Raga Gorakh. It is closely related to another composition in part 1 of this album called Steady March (ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/steady-march). To listen to the earlier take on Gently Adrift check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/gently-adrift

Placid Hour is based on Raga Bhoopali (or Raga Mohanam). It is closely related to an earlier composition called Prolific Hour based on Raga Malkauns (or Raga Hindolam). Raga Bhoopali is a murchhana of Raga Malkauns by taking the Komal Dhaivat (minor sixth) in Malkauns as the Sa (tonic) for Bhoopali. To listen to the earlier composition check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/prolific-hour

Mixed Roots is based on Raga Shankarabharanam. It is closely related to another composition in this album called Strong Roots. Mixed Roots uses microtonal modulation to repeatedly change the tonic by an interval of Pramana Shruti (syntonic comma). This is possible in Raga Shankarabharanam using the note Re (major second) which can have two intonations, one matching the Pa (perfect fifth) and the other matching the Dha (major sixth).

Flight at First Light is based on Raga Bhairavi which is also called Raga Sindhubhairavi in South India. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/flight-at-first-light

Home Away From Home is again a showcase of two Ragas, namely, Raga Malkauns (or Hindolam) and Raga Bhoopali (Mohanam). Raga Bhoopali is a murchhana of Raga Malkauns by taking the Komal Dhaivat (minor sixth) in Malkauns as the Sa (tonic) for Bhoopali. The composition is devised to alternate between the Ragas by means of shifting the tonic.
