about

Reincarnation - Part 1 is the first part of the eighth album by Ragatronics. Ragatronics combines Ragas from Indian Classical music with elements from Electronic, Jazz and Rock music.

Reincarnation revisits several of Ragatronics's older compositions and re-interprets them with new harmonies and new improvisations.

First Salute is based on a traditional geetam called Lambodara in Raga Malahari. A Geetam is a simple musical form in the Carnatic tradition of Indian Classical music. Raga Malahari is a derivative of Raga Bhairav or Raga Mayamalavagowla. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/first-salute

Dawn Over the Meadow is based on Raga Ahir Bhairav. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/dawn-over-the-meadow

An Old But Familiar Voice is based on Raga Keerawani. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/an-old-but-familiar-voice

Grace in Discord is based on Raga Yaman or Raga Kalyani. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/grace-in-discord

A Quiet Uprising is based on Raga Malkauns which is also called Raga Hindolam in South India. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/a-quiet-uprising

Spellbound is based on Raga Jog or Raga Nata/Natai. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/spellbound

An Invigorating Air is based on Raga Hindol. It is partially based on an earlier composition called An Air of Gravitas in Raga Kaushik Dhwani. Raga Hindol uses Teevra Madhyam (tritone) in place of the Komal Madhyam (perfect fourth) used in Raga Kaushika Dhwani. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/an-air-of-gravitas

Steady March is based on Raga Hamsadhwani. It is closely related to an earlier composition called Gently Adrift based on Raga Gorakh. Raga Hamsadhwani is a murchhana (mode) of Raga Gorakh by taking the Komal Nishad (minor seventh) in Gorakh as the Sa (tonic) for Hamsadhwani. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/gently-adrift

A Comet's Dance is based on Raga Chandrakauns. To listen to the earlier version check ragatronics.bandcamp.com/track/a-comets-dance

A Question of Fundamentals is a showcase of two Ragas, namely, Raga Bilaskhani Todi and Raga Kalyani. Raga Todi is a murchhana (mode) of Raga Kalyani by taking the Teevra Nishad (major seventh) in Kalyani as the Sa (tonic) for Todi. The composition is devised to alternate between the Ragas by means of shifting the tonic.
